Burnish
The block face is mechanically ground to expose the natural aggregate underneath. Also referred to as ‘ground-face finish’ – with no two units are exactly alike. Used in load-bearing and non-load-bearing residential and commercial applications. Meets or exceeds ASTM C90 standards.
Manufactured with dense, standard weight aggregates for maximum mass (greater than 125 pcf). Typically used in below-grade, retaining wall, and site wall conditions.
A mix of dense and lightweight aggregates – like cinders and pumice – blended to achieve Medium Weight classification (105 to less than 125 pcf). Aggregate choice affects appearance on exposed aggregate finishes. Suitable for site and load-bearing conditions, offering excellent R-value and fire resistance.
Manufactured with expanded shale aggregates to achieve Light Weight classification (less than 105 pcf). Expanded shale affects color of CMU, slightly deepening color. Used primarily in load-bearing conditions, offering the best available R-value and fire resistance.
