Celebrating 80 Years of Masonry
Since 1946, ORCO Block & Hardscape has helped shape California’s neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and outdoor spaces through quality concrete masonry and hardscape products.
As a family-owned company, we’ve built our reputation on quality, innovation, and relationships that stand the test of time.

A Leap of Faith
People often ask me how ORCO got its start.
Rick Muth
The truth is, it began with my dad, Pete Muth, and a leap of faith.

After returning home from World War II, my dad joined his father and brother-in-law making donuts in Santa Ana, California. They sold them for 30 cents a dozen plain and 35 cents a dozen fancy, working long hours to make an honest living.
Then an opportunity came along that would change our family’s future. A partner in a small company called ORCO Block Company decided to step away, and my dad, my grandfather, and my uncle scraped together around $6,000 to buy his share. For a while, they were making donuts and concrete block at the same time. It was exhausting, but they believed in both businesses.
Eventually, they realized they had to make a choice. They decided to leave the donut business behind and put everything they had into manufacturing concrete block. Looking back, that decision became the foundation of ORCO.
More than 80 years later, I still think about the courage it took to take that chance. My dad taught me that success isn’t built overnight, it’s earned through hard work, integrity, and treating people the right way. Those values have guided our family and our company ever since.
